35 Mile Avalanche Fence

Project Scope
The slope above Highway 35 West of Terrace, BC has proven to be very hazardous due to random snow releases. This snow and debris land on the roadway below, therefore, elevating the risk to unsuspecting motorists.
Methods and Solution
An Avalanche net retention system was installed to prevent snow from sliding in the start zone. Annual maintenance and inspections are completed to ensure the net will perform to the engineering specifications.
Results
This net system has significantly reduced avalanche occurrences from this particular gully. British Columbia Ministry of Transportation has reported a reduction in road closures and highway maintenance.
